Jackfruit is a healthy meat substitute for vegetarians and vegans. While it is technically a fruit, the consistency is quite similar to meat. It goes really well with barbecue sauce and perfect for stuffing into bread or tacos.
To make this delicious sandwich It all starts with the barbecue sauce. You can absolutely use a store-bought barbecue sauce here. Myself i prefer homemade sauce, because It’s so delicious, so simple and super easy to make in very little time. And you probably already have all the ingredients in your pantry.

Barbecue Pulled jackfruit sandwich
- 1 tsp smoked paprika
- 4 tbsp soy sauce
- 3 tbsp maple syrup
- 2 tbsp tomato purée
- 3 cloves garlic, minced
- 2 tbsp apple cider vinegar
- 4 tbsp water
- 1 can young jackfruit @naturescharm
- 1 shallot, diced
- 2 cloves garlic, minced
- 2 tbsp olive oil
- Salt and pepper to taste
To make the barbecue sauce, in a small bowl add in all sauce ingredients and mix well. Set aside.
Drain and pull jackfruits apart into shreds by hand. Set a aside.
In a large skillet, heat the oil over medium-high heat. Add the minced garlic, diced shallot and sauté for 3 minutes, until softened.
Add the jackfruit and heat through for 2-3 minutes. Reduce heat to low, add the homemade barbecue sauce, salt and pepper, mix until well combined.
Remove the jackfruit from heat and assemble your sandwich. Spread bread with barbecue jackfruit and any other desired toppings like greens or veggies and enjoy!
