Pan-fried homemade sweet potato gnocchi

These Vegan Sweet Potato Gnocchi are a great twist to regular Potato Gnocchi.

It’s healthier, It’s delicious, chewy, soft, flavourful and It’s pretty easy to make.

Servings 1 serving


  • 200g sweet Potato (steamed)
  • 1/4 cup unsweetened almond milk
  • 1 1/4 cup all-purpose flour
  • 1 tbsp nutritional yeast
  • 1 tsp salt
  • 1/4 black pepper
  • Additional flour for kneading


  • 2 tbsp olive oil
  • 1 medium onion, diced
  • 3 cloves garlic, minced
  • 100g mushrooms, sliced
  • 1 tsp chilli flakes
  • Salt and pepper to taste


  1. Peel the sweet potato and add into to a large mixing bowl.
  2. Add almond milk, nutritional yeast, salt, pepper. Using a masher or hand mixer, mash until very smooth.
  3. Add flour. Using a large spoon, stir to combine. Knead with your hands for a few minutes until a soft dough forms. 
  4. Place dough onto a lightly floured work surface. Roll out sections of the dough into long "snakes". With a sharp knife, cut into 1-inch "pillows". Roll the pillows on a fork to form ridges in the dough. 
  5. In a large pot of boiling water carefully drop in gnocchi.
  6. Once they have risen to the surface of the water, cook for a further minute. Remove, drain and set aside.

  7. In a large skillet, heat 2 tbsp oil over medium-high heat. Add the onion, garlic and mushrooms cook until they begin to brown. Add the gnocchi and cook, tossing occasionally, add a tsp of chilli flakes. until they’re lightly brown, about 5 minutes. Serve warn.
